Boy Weren't We Something
04:21
|
|||
Hey Old friend
How you been
It’s sure been awhile
How’s the wife
How’s the kids
It’s nice to see you out
Is this your HEB
Cuz I aint seen you here
Oh you just work nearby
But boy weren’t we something
Boy weren’t we something
Even just for a while
You been writing much
Just here and there
Yeah I’m about the same
I got this idea
For a new record
One of these days
We should meet up
And try to write
I’m free most Friday nights
Boy weren’t we something
Boy weren’t we something
Even just for a while
Remember that show
at old Antones
Man we sold it out
Remember those weekleys
Up at momo’s that the paper wrote about
Remember those days
We’d see our faces
On the Chronicle pages
Boy weren’t we something
Boy weren’t we something
Even just for a while
Man I tell you what
I miss your songs
You ever playing out
I got this monthly pretty far north
Well, it’s up in Georgetown
It pays alright
The baristas are nice
I can give em your name
But boy weren’t we something
Boy weren’t we something
Even just for a while

Fuck I.C.E.
04:30
|
|||
I was driving near the border when I had to stop and talk to a drug dog
I thought I’d hid it better, but in the end it didn’t matter once I heard the barking
I knew where things were going
There was a quick change of demeanor as they asked me out the vehicle
Officer is there something wrong?
We’re out here rounding up illegals
Busting nuts and feeling evil
And you’re the first illegal thing thats come along
Oh lucky me
Oh my my
Freedom isn’t free
neither are you and i
oh lucky me
oh what a life
lets sing it all together
fuck ice
So they’re asking me the questions
Where you from, who you friends with and why.
I said I was a country singer, sang em jesus and bartenders
he stopped loving her, and mama tried
They just shook their heads a smiling
boy you must think that we’re blind
cuz you look like the willlie nelson kind
Your insinuation is insulting
I’m a tax paying adult and no that pound of marajuana is not mine
So now i’m sitting here in prison
with three men who don’t speak english
but I speak enough spanish to get by
Been living here for decades
Got a family, rent and bills to pay
And suddenly they’re in a deportation line
I’d do a hundred years in prison
If i could just give those three men
a chance to see their children one last time
But they’re banned from ever coming again
Their children risk not getting back in
So it’s face time for the rest of their lives

Better Man
04:03
|
|||
When you’re out there driving
And you get that feeling
And you don’t know what it is
But it feels uneasy
Even though you know things are fine right now
They’ve been this way for a time right now
But maybe that’s the problem
You’re ready for a change
Wanna move things forward
But you don’t know what it takes
So you keep on driving
Hoping it’ll go away
But I’m just trying to be
A better man
A better man
A better man
Than I been
Be a better man
A better man and that’s all
So I pull in my drive way and I’m sweating like hell
It’s been funny things have been so bad
I’m finally doing well
But I’ve got a taste of the stable life
And I ain’t making quite enough to live it right
So I dream up schemes
To get my money right
To be the man I wanna be
For my kids and my wife
And if I don’t make it
I hope they see that I tried
I guess I’ll start at home
Make sure I’m sharing the load
Clean when I can
And keep the grass mowed
No jeans in the bed if I been wearing em all night
Stay patient and loving when I ain’t feeling right
Remember to look my wife in the eyes
Tell her I love her at the end of the night
Spend my money on others
And put a little aside

Family Man
02:37
|
|||
I was a wild young man
Never gave a care about the whole damn world
I lived life at my own speed
Plenty of beer Plenty of weed
You never see change coming
Til it crashes into your bike
in 2 short years I was a married man
Living the family life
Kissing my misspent youth goodbye
Now the Harley’s gathering dust
As I put the car seat in my wifes car
Cause its better on gas than mine
And we’re driving kind of far
To see the in-laws for the weekend
Drinking tea and playing with cousins
Won’t see a bar for 4 more days
Hardly recognize my life these days
Chorus
I’m family man
Ooh baby I’m a family man
I’m a family man
Yes I am
Saturday mornings
I’ll be at the park
Pushing a stroller
at the farmers market
I guess my last tattoo
Mighta been my last one
And the hangovers hurt more
And really aint worth the fun
Chorus
Aint smoking weed in the house no more
Finally learning what the garage is for
Coffee went from cups to pots
And I stay tired whether I drink it or not
I’m a family man
Oh baby I’m a family man
Wife on my arm
beer in my hand
Baby in the stroller
Farmers tan
I’m a family man

What I Had To Do
03:50
|
|||
College came and college went
Got a few life skills, mostly debt
Never shoulda gone its my own damn fault
Credits pretty bad the loans in default
I went to school but never wanted to
Was just doing what I thought I had to do
I got me a job but never got too far
Got enough to get me that new used car
Met me a woman who didn’t mind
She works too so we pass the time
Can’t say now, I ever loved her true
But I just did what I thought I had to do
You already know how the story goes
Got A couple of kids next thing I know
Took a job I hated that paid me more
Its one thing to be broke its another to see your kids grow up poor
Worked a lot more than I wanted to
I just did what I thought I had to do
Well My wife finally left, Its been a long time
And I barely hear from those kids of mine
I can still remember how it used to be
When my life was out in front of me
Now I got a quiet little one bedroom
To think of all the things that I had to do.

Deductibles
02:49
|
|||
I’m tired
I can’t sleep
I got pain in my back
I got pain in my knees
And now they’re trying to make a profit off of me
I been poor
I’m run down
Life’s been hard
It’s getting harder now
And still they’re trying to make a profit off of me
With all this talk about deductibles, deductibles
The goddamned deductibles
It’s more than i’ll make in a four months time
Maybe I could come closer to affording the deductibles
If my monthly premiums weren’t so damn high
So damn high
So damn high
Well the first doc that came to see me
he’s in my network phew I guess he’s free
But still they’re gonna make a profit off of me
See the secretary who checked me in
She ain’t covered
And neither is this chair i’m sitting in?
Or this pen?
Now they’ll make a profit off of me
Insurance companies are the scum of the land
They’ll let you die right in their hands
Universal healthcare is a right of man
Until then it will always be
Just some billionaires trying to make a profit off of me

Heroin Town
02:30
|
|||
Heroin town Heroin town
I come from a heroin town
Heroin town heroin town
I come from a heroin town
Death it lingers all around
When you’re from a heroin town
Some folks make it some folks drown
Struggling in a heroin town
It gets worse every time I come home
A couple more of my friends are gone
I thank God my brothers in recovery now
The best you can hope for in a heroin town
Heroin town Heroin town
I come from a heroin town
Heroin town heroin town
I come from a heroin town
Overdose is now killer number one
More than car crashes, heart disease or guns
So little hope left anymore
a couple small battles in a losing war
Some evils good can’t over come
Greeds the great killer of American sons
Millions will die while billions are made
By the pharmaceutical industry
Heroin town Heroin town
I come from a heroin town
Heroin town heroin town
I come from a heroin town
Purdue Pharma you’re to blame
Sackler Family we know your names
Your philanthropy can’t hide your shame
If there were justice in the world, you’d feel the pain

Nice Ain't Enough
01:58
|
|||
You see people everyday
Who you don’t really like but you still say hey
That’s nice
But nice ain’t enough
You see problems and you look the other way
There’s people doing wrong and you got nothing to say
You’re nice
But nice aint enough
When things get real are you out there walking
Or back at home just a talk talk talking
Like, Trouble stay away from me
People grow up the right way
Yes Ma’am you betcha church on sunday
They’re nice
But nice ain’t enough
Their actions give em away
If it ain’t their problem then it’s all ok
They’re nice
But nice ain’t enough

I Know About No Money
02:52
|
|||
I know about no money
I know about hard work
I know about playing the fool
I know about being the jerk
I know about no money
I know about pay day loans
I know about the car ain’t running
I know about walking home
I like cold ham and cheese sandwiches
But I like peanut butter and jelly more
And I like my beer of the light variety
And no matter how many I’ve had I can always have a couple more
I know about no money
I know about hard work
I know about playing the fool
I know about being the jerk
I know about no money
I know about pay day loans
I know about the car ain’t running
I know about walking home
I like my Wrangler jeans
And I wish more things were American made
I wear my shirts mostly unbuttoned
And I like my things more the less I paid
I know about no money
I know about hard work
I know about playing the fool
I know about being the jerk
I know about no money
I know about pay day loans
I know about the car ain’t running
I know about walking home
So if you see me walking down life’s highway
Stop and ask if I need a ride
Cause I have plenty of good days
But I still have those days that I just break down and cry

Over There That's Frank
03:43
|
|||
What a surprise
I didn't recognize
You in here
In this dive
Where I try to survive
From tear to lonely tear
What do you want
'Cause you know I don't
Have a nickel to offer you
But before you go
I want you to know
Who helped me get over you
Over there, that's Frank
I've got him to thank
He sets me up when I'm broke
And there's old Al
A sad-eyed pal
Whose stories so plainly show
And in walks Glen
He takes me home when
I'm too drunk to drive
And the barmaid Lou Ann
Who holds my hand
Every time I start to cry
So you see
I don't need
You or your sympathy
As long as I've got
My close friends
Watchin' over me
Well, I know you must
Be in a rush
To run to someone new
But before you go
I want you to know
Who helped me get over you
Over there, that's Frank
I've got him to thank
He sets me up when I'm broke
And there's old Al
A sad-eyed pal
Whose stories so plainly show
And in walks Glen
He takes me home when
I'm too drunk to drive
And the barmaid Lou Ann
Who holds my hand
Every time I start to cry
Over there...

One Of These Days
02:47
|
|||
I get up when they tell me
I go home when they say it’s time
I think my boss is a dumbass
But I keep my opinions mine
Until I’m sitting around with my buddies
Talking about working our lives away
Then its
Boy I oughta
Man I’m gonna
One of these days
I got a 1966 Nova, Well about half of one anyways
Gonna drop in the new transmission once I get the engine replaced
Got an old iron head in boxes, that I got in a steal of a trade
Boy I oughta
Man I’m gonna
One of these days
One of these days I’m gonna speak my mind in time for it to count
I’m gonna read a new book, or take a spin class just see what thats all about
I’m gonna get the damn lawn mower running
I’m gonna get them back taxes paid
Boy I oughta
Man I’m gonna
One of these days
My property tax went up again, Suddenly its pay to park everywhere
But yet they’re talking about closing some public schools and there ain’t a bus route that will get you there
I need to get downtown to a council meeting cuz I got some things to say
Boy I oughta
Man I’m gonna
One of these days
